Fast and Slow Fuses (Audiomyth Level 5)

Some audiophiles claim that if one replaces the stock fuses on their audio devices with what are referred to as “slow fuses” that their equipment will better be able to handle the current surges needed due to the dynamics of music. “Fast fuses” pop easily in this line of thinking while slow fuses let short surges of current pass through.

There are several reasons to doubt this. First, the engineers who designed the equipment matched the fuse to the equipment based on specified energy consumption requirements. If you are using the equipment within those specs that are enforced by the limits of the volume control, for instance, then there is no real need for this surge “overhead.” Second, more current might be needed for amplifiers but is not generally needed for devices like DACs or streamers that operate at low and daily consistent energy levels.
